Every team member at Hemisphere is vital. Everyone has the ability to play a part in our success and to help continuously drive the company forwards. As we continue to succeed and grow, one of our top priorities is maintaining our inclusive company culture and making people feel part of the family. 

We genuinely care about our team and want to provide them with fulfilling and secure careers by rewarding achievements, sharing benefits and taking on challenges together. This goes a long way to keeping our team feeling confident, motivated and secure, and we’re immensely proud of how they talk about their experience here.

Encouraging personal progress

With employee training, we’re not only thinking about external courses, but also creating opportunities for development in-house. In 2021 alone, a total of 30 people were either promoted or moved across into a different department to further their skills, knowledge and experience.

We have a policy of promoting internally whenever possible and ensuring we have the right people in the right seats. Again, it’s all about listening to individual aims and needs, and playing to their strengths and goals.

Providing first class working environments

When people feel comfortable, safe and with everything they need to hand, they are able to perform at their best. Every space we use goes beyond being fit for purpose to provide a superior environment for employees to work in. 

From warehouses to offices, depots and the vehicles themselves, we ensure the workplace is clean, modern, well-designed and in good working order. Everything is checked regularly, and we take workplace health and safety very seriously.

It’s important for the team to have the chance to let their hair down, have fun and enjoy each other’s company outside of work. Once you realise the people you’re working alongside are friends, and not merely colleagues, then we’re all motivated to do our best for each other./

We work hard to keep spirits high within the company and help everyone to get to know and understand each other better by organising a variety of social events throughout the year – from meals and parties to full days out. This year’s social events included wheel-to-wheel action at Red lodge Karting, a feast fit for a king at the Summer BBQ, voluntary fitness Bootcamps, and the big Christmas party at Ipswich’s Trinity Park, to name just a few.

When Covid precautions were still in place, we started a series of outdoor bootcamp sessions delivered by Ipswich Boot Camps (owned by former Premier League footballer, Ruel Fox). This was to help employees enjoy exercise in fresh air, as well as enabling them to mix with their colleagues in a safe environment.

As restrictions lifted these popular sessions continued, enabling everyone to stay healthy and gain the friendship and solidarity of training together. The sessions are available to newcomers of all abilities, but don’t worry if the thought of a strenuous workout fills you with dread – they are entirely optional!

We’ve enjoyed good relationships with the communities around our offices, and we’re happy to pay something back in return. Goodwill can foster good business, and inspires a sense of gratitude throughout the company. For example, our Ipswich HQ has supported Inspire Suffolk with donations and fundraising activities – contributing thousands of pounds over the course of a year – and offered work placements for young people who’ve faced challenges in the past.

We also organise schemes of our own to benefit local communities and help everyone around us. Our employees know that by helping people, we can all rise together. We’re also proud to be a major player in local job creation, with 72% of new hires at our Ipswich HQ in the past year living within a 20-mile radius.

While some of our roles by their nature cannot be performed at home, we are doing our best to provide a flexible approach where possible – either for health, safety or personal reasons. Of course we want all team members to be and feel part of our business, and have worked hard to make our facilities safe, spacious and great places for sharing advice, ideas and camaraderie.
