Overview

A Project for our Passionate Team

We are extremely passionate about cars at Hemisphere Freight Services and take huge pride in the dedicated and delicate service we provide when transporting any vehicle. We have built up a great portfolio of supercar projects, from personal shipments through to the Supercars Club Arabia tour, where we handled twenty luxurious supercars from Dubai, Bahrain and Abu Dhabi to the UK and back.

Our journey to transport one of the first Bugatti Chirons produced and a one off, specially customised Bentley Bentayga, started with a conversation with our client, for whom we were handling a shipment of a Rolls Royce Phantom Coupe at the time.

It is not unusual for Middle Eastern clientele to visit Europe for a vacation during the summer, and bring their most prized possession – their cars – with them. On this occasion, the client was initially travelling to France, before heading to London, and finally returning to Bahrain. Our job was to recommend the correct documentation to allow the client to travel through Europe with their vehicles, before tackling the hands-on challenge of returning them to the Middle East.

"This was such a unique project to be a part of. We enjoyed the challenge and were motivated to ensure that our client enjoyed an amazing trip. I would like to think that the solution and service that we provided is one that both Bugatti and Bentley would be proud of themselves."

Selecting a Supercar Worthy Solution

The value and exclusivity of the vehicles meant we had to prioritise security above anything else. The Bugatti was spotted and shared hundreds of times on social media while in Europe, so we needed to limit the attention received, and disruption caused, as much as possible on the surrounding roads, whilst ensuring safe handling to avoid any damage.

Given the extremely low ground clearance of the Bugatti, we had to find a car transporter with long and shallow ramps, which would prevent the underside of the car being scuffed. It was also important for the car transporter to be fully enclosed, so the vehicles were protected from the elements and unwanted attention. Finally, we needed our specialist partner to have the appropriate insurance to cover the value of the vehicles.

Due to the height of the Bentley, we had little option but to use a larger freight aircraft to transport the cars to Bahrain. We eventually settled on a service from Cargolux Airlines, which specialises in handling high-value vehicles. Their service involved road haulage from London Heathrow to Luxembourg, connecting with a Boeing 747-400 freighter aircraft that travelled directly to Bahrain International airport. It gave us the peace of mind, and solution, that served everyone’s best interests, reducing risks in both potential delays and damages.

Synchronised Collections

Neither of the sites where the cars were kept during their time in the UK could accommodate the transporter. As a result, we had to arrange for the transporter to arrive at a set location as close as possible to the Bugatti dealership and ensure both cars were delivered to the truck within moments of each other. Such precise planning was necessary to avoid the disruption that could come with crowds gathering to see a Bugatti Chiron on the streets of a major city.

Our solution involved sending an HFS vehicle out to the Bentley’s location, before escorting it on a pre-planned route to the collecting trailer. Once the Bentley was close by, the Bugatti was called round and driven up to the transporter, with the Bentley now immediately behind. Vehicle inspections were carried out, and ground clearance checks were made, ensuring that our customer’s representative was happy. Both cars were loaded successfully to the trailer, with minimum exposure.

We then escorted the transporter to London Heathrow airport – via Hemisphere’s Heathrow office to collect documentation – before delivering the vehicles to the airline handling shed. Once we’d overseen the safe loading of the vehicles to the carrier’s aircraft pallets, they were reloaded onto the airline’s transporter for delivery to Luxembourg airport, where the cars connected with their direct flight to Bahrain. The airline shared photos with us once they were loaded on-board, with the onward flight passing without a hitch. The cars arrived in Bahrain on time and in perfect order, much to the satisfaction of all involved.
