Introducing Our New Export Packing Team
3 minutes to read
At Hemisphere Freight Services (HFS), we are always seeking new ways to offer additional value to our customers. From assisting with global logistics solutions and customs clearance processes to advising on import and export documentation, we pride ourselves on going the extra mile for each and every client. With that in mind, we are very excited to announce the launch of our new export packing and crate making service.
Complementing our end-to-end freight forwarding services, the new service enables HFS to provide in house solutions for case making and export packing. Our heat-treated and certified wooden packaging is specially designed and manufactured for road, air and sea transport, with our vastly experienced timber engineers able to produce suitable packaging for products including oil and gas equipment, automotive parts, artwork, motorcycles, museum artefacts, and high-value manufacturing machinery.
Expanding the HFS team
We are also delighted to welcome a number of new team members, who bring over 20 years’ experience in the design and manufacture of bespoke packaging that is used for transport of highly-sensitive and valuable goods to all parts of the world.
The new timber engineering service is headed by Mark Foster, who has assumed the role of Packing Manager at HFS, while Peter Hume rejoins HFS in the newly-created role of Commercial Manager for the packing division. Mark and Peter will be joined by six additional employees as we look to actively grow and develop this service line over the next 12 months and beyond.
A new packing and case manufacturing facility
To support this service, we have opened a dedicated facility and warehouse on Ipswich Port’s West Bank Terminal, strategically positioned close to our Ipswich HQ and the Port of Felixstowe. The facility is fully-equipped with all the necessary tools and machinery to deliver an efficient and professional export packing and crate making service, accompanied by a full range of warehousing services, adding an additional 22,000 sq ft of capacity to meet strong demand in this sector.
Depending on a customer’s needs, HFS can either collect products for packing at our new facility or pack them at a customer’s premises with our special on-site service. We also work on a supply-only basis, working closely with customers to design and manufacture bespoke timber packaging that can be delivered fully assembled, or flat-packed for efficient storage and simple assembly.
Andy Perrin, Owner and Managing Director at HFS, said:
“This was the perfect opportunity to add to our growing logistics business, but just as importantly, it allowed us to offer continued employment to a brilliant team of local, skilled workers who deliver a specialised service that is rare across the UK. Bringing this service in-house will only help us create greater efficiencies as we continue to deliver a first-class logistics service to customers.”
Once this new service has been established, HFS plans to launch an apprenticeship scheme to help train the next generation of export case-makers. This will complement the BIFA-recognised international logistics apprenticeship scheme that we launched last year.
