Maintenance Operative

We are looking for a Maintenance team member, you’ll be responsible for the ongoing maintenance of the building, and the service programmes that support the core business of Hemisphere. The role will involve:
You’ll ensure that best practices are followed for maximum efficiency and that the most suitable working environment is attained for its employees and their activities. You’ll be involved in the day-to-day operations, particularly in relation to buildings and the premises. Likely areas of responsibility include:
- Building and Grounds Maintenance
- Building Services
- Procurement and Contract Management
- Security
- Warehouse Space Management
- Health and Safety
In liaison with your Supervisor and /or members of the H&S Compliance team you will coordinate and plan essential services such as:
- Maintenance – be reactive to identified issues and/ or assist with the cycle of maintenance for painting, building or floor repairs, or dealing with staff recreational outdoor areas etc.
- Site cleaning - assist with roading sweeping around site, salt spreading if weather is inclement, or weed control in non-garden areas.
- Waste disposal and recycling – assist with emptying the rubbish bins to the front of the site regularly, and waste items especially industrial related chemical products are safely disposed of.
- Safety – ensure that all fire evacuation routes are clear and accessible and report on any issues to Management.
- Security arrangements – assist with emergency callouts, building open up/lockdowns as required.
- Archiving - assist with the disposal of archived documents.
- Coordinate contractors in liaison with your Supervisor and/or Management, e.g., Electricians, Plumbers, Builders, Gardeners, Road Painters etc. including taking responsibility for their H&S.
- Have a proactive approach to maintenance to ensure minimum disruption to core activities.
- Under direction from your Supervisor or Management ensure all Hemisphere sites meet H&S requirements and comply with the required legislation.
- Work in a safe way: must take reasonable care of themselves and others in line with H&S requirements.
- Check that agreed work has been completed satisfactorily and follow up on any deficiencies.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies or urgent issues as they arise and deal with the consequences.
You will need to have:
Whilst this role is based at our Ipswich HQ, we may also require the role to attend our other sites, therefore a degree of flexibility will be required as will a full driving licence.
- Good interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Qualifications held in; IOSH – Managing Safely, or Maintenance Operations, Level 2 would be advantageous.
- The ability to multitask and prioritise your workload.
- Good time & project management skills.
- Confident decision making.
- Great problem-solving skills.
- Teamwork skills.
- A practical, flexible, and innovative approach to work.
- Have solid work experience of, or a good working knowledge of any of the following skill areas; Plumbing, Electrical, Engineering and/or Building Skills.
- Current MHE Licences will be required; Counterbalance B1, or up to B2 15,000kg, VNA F1 and MEWP.
- Due to the active nature of this role, be physically fit.
